About Us

Please read beyond the first few lines and don't be alarmed by the words Third Age and University.

All is not what it seems.

We are Sherburn and Villages U3A, one of 840 U3A's in the UK with between them a nearly 275,000 members, as at 20th February 2012.

But wait, don't stop reading just yet.

Sherburn and Villages U3A is run by local people just like you.

We are all volunteers and work together to help each other in retirement or semi-retirement to carry on with informal group learning and activities.

Members act together to form their own interest groups, appoint a group leader who simply coordinates the running of the group with the help of all group members who work together in whatever their chosen activity is to carry on learning and honing their skills by teaching each other.

No formal qualification are necessary and none are awarded.

We are in the Third Age of our lives the meaning of which is the period beyond our working lives, and University is an environment where we continue our education.

You can be assured that there are no entrance qualifications whatsoever, so please look further at the activities already available shown on the and pages. You may be surprised by what you find.

We are pleased with the range of activities on offer, however we are not complacent and new ideas are always very welcome.

If you don't see anything to interest you, maybe you can suggest an activity that would interest us!

Come along to our monthly meeting, there is no obligation to join immediately. There is more information on the page.

We look forward to meeting and greeting you on the third Thursday of each month at 2.00pm in the Eversley Park Centre, Sherburn in Elmet.
